We are too easily misled by a common portrait of Descartes’ philosophy as a testimonial to the power of reason to achieve perfect clarity about the self, the world, and God. I will suggest that we can encounter a much more interesting Descartes if we see him as engaged in an inherently transgressive project. Free and open to the public.
