Andrew Jay Bernstein '68 Memorial Lecture
François Rochat. Professor in the Faculty of Sciences, University of FribourgProfessor of Psychology. Gymnase de La Cité, Lausanne
Professor Rochat is among a number of prominent academic social psychologists who have connected the Milgram studies at Yale to ‘real-world’ matters. Since the middle 90’s professor Rochat has written and postulated about the human trait of “common decency” and has applied it to the appearance of resistance to authority and the rescue of Jews in the town of Le Chambon in Southern France and elsewhere in Europe. In his address at Bard College he further speculates on the failure of even massive social movements to compromise or contaminate “common decency”.
