Reservations may be made through the Box Office.Yasuko Yokoshi, New York Live Arts’ inaugural resident commissioned artist, will give a rare performance of solo material from Kyoganoko Musume-Dojoji. This repertory, first performed in 17th century Japan, is reputed to be the most important and difficult dance work in the Kabuki theater repertoire and is an inspiration point for her new work, BELL. Ms. Yokoshi will also present an in-progress trio from BELL, which will have its world premiere at New York Live Arts in March 2013. A moderated discussion with Yokoshi and her dancers will follow the performance.Yasuko Yokoshi was born and raised in Hiroshima, Japan, and currently lives and works in New York City. Yokoshi's work has been presented by the Theatre de la Ville in Paris, the Dublin Dance Festival, The Kitchen, Performance Space 122, Guggenheim Museum, and Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City, and Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art in Boston, among other venues. In July 2011, Yokoshi was appointed as the inaugural resident commissioned artist of New York Live Arts. Recent awards include a John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship (2009) and a Foundation for Contemporary Arts Award (2008). She is the recipient of a Creative Capital grant, a New York Foundation for the Arts Artist Fellowship, and two New York Dance and Performance Bessie Awards for her choreography of Shuffle (2003) and what we when we (2006). She is an associate curator at The Kitchen.Yasuko Yokoshi’s performance occurs as part of the partnership between Bard College and the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company.
