Hello, The following event may be of interest to you: The Economic Crisis Turns Six: What Have We Learned (Again)? Wednesday, April 10, 2013 The immediate policy response to the 2008 crisis has been much better than that to the Great Depression. The management of the economy post-crisis, however, has been much less successful, leading to a painfully weak and historically slow recovery. As Americans suffer, economists are reminded of important economic principles. This seminar stresses two of them, with implications for policy. First, fiscal policy has been rediscovered as an effective tool in economic stabilization and its effectiveness has been demonstrated in Europe. Second, the unequal distribution of income has played a significant role in explaining the crisis and the slow recovery. So far, the acceptance of those two lessons has been limited among American policymakers and academics. Please join us at 6:30 p.m. for a reception in the Olin Atrium.
