Hello, The following event may be of interest to you: Christianity as World Religion, from Constantine the Great to Elizabeth I Wednesday, December 31, 1969 When the Roman Empire changed its view of Christianity, from persecuting it as a *superstitio* to accepting that it was a *religio*, the Church acclaimed Constantine as an agent of God. He returned the favor by a steady increase of privileges for Catholics, until the Empire became a Christian preserve. Once the connection between Church and State was forged, however, it provoked a series of unintended consequences that included the Reformation. That process saw the emergence of a Protestant empire at odds with Catholic claimants to the mantle of Constantine.The lecture series begins on Friday, October 4, and continues on thefollowing Fridays: October 11, 18, 25, and November 1. All lectures in the series are sponsored by the Institute of Advanced Theology and take place at the Church of St. John the Evangelist at 1114 River Road, Barrytown, NY. Lunch is at noon consisting of soup, bread, dessert, coffee and tea at a cost of $6.00. The presentation begins at 12:30 p.m. followed by a question and answer period.
