Red Hook - Adult Fiction Workshop
Saturday, March 15, 2014

In the world of young adult fiction, where dystopia and fantasy sometimes seem to be the rule, literary fiction still has an important role to play. Novelist and playwright Madeleine George will lead adult writers in a workshop that draws on Marilynne Robinson's coming-of-age classic Housekeeping to explore image, character, and landscape in literary fiction for young adults. Please bring a notebook and pen or pencil; participants will write during the workshop. Madeleine George's two YA novels are published by Viking Children's Books. Her first, LOOKS, was one of Booklist's 2008 Top Ten First Novels for Youth, and was a 2009 ALA Best Book for Young Adults. Her second, THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOU AND ME, was a Kirkus Best Teen Book of 2012, a Junior Library Guild selection and an ALA Rainbow List selection, and was chosen as Atlantic Wire's Best Complicated Romance of 2012. Madeleine is an associate of the Bard Institute for Writing and Thinking. Visit her at madeleinegeorge.com .

Time: 2:00 pm EDT/GMT-4
Location: Red Hook Public Library
