Hello, The following event may be of interest to you: Peter Rosenblum Professor of International Law and Human Rights Wednesday, September 24, 2014 As “corporate social responsibility” enters the mainstream, itsinitials "CSR" have become a dirty word for a broad segment of theengaged public. The voluntariness, vagueness, and uncertainty ofenforcement – not to mention blatant propaganda by companies –overwhelm any positive value, they argue. At the other end of thespectrum, CSR enthusiasts insist that it is leading to a new paradigm,even challenging traditional forms of corporate governance. Oftoverlooked in the debate over CSR is the way in which public campaignshave driven change and, even more importantly, shaped the mechanismsthat emerge. CSR continues to be as much the story of savvy activistsleveraging global networks as it is the monitoring mechanisms andcodes of conduct -- maybe more so. Peter Rosenblum will explore thecurrent debate, drawing on his recently completed research on IndianTea plantations and a soon-to-published chapter addressing advocatesand critics of CSR.
