Recital 3pmMasterclass 5pm Gábor Csalog, who studied with György Kurtág, Zoltán Kocsis, and András Schiff at the Franz Liszt Academy, is well-known for concert programs that couple classical and contemporary music for the piano. Over his career, Mr. Csalog has developed deep relationships with several Hungarian composers, most especially with Kurtág, who has dedicated several pieces to him and recorded his compositions with him. Mr. Csalog was György Ligeti's artist of choice to perform his piano works in Hungary, and he worked closely with the composer until his death in 2006. He has performed in the U.S. and in most European countries (at festivals including Kuhmo and Schleswig-Holstein). Among his chamber music partners are notable artists such as Boris Pergamenchikow, Heinz Holliger, Miklós Perényi, András Keller and András Kemenes. A professor of piano at his alma mater, he edited the complete piano works of Chopin at Könemann Musik Budapest publishing house. In 2003, Mr. Csalog was awarded the Liszt Prize, the highest acknowledgment for classical music performers in Hungary. Some of his important recordings include: Chopin's Mazurkas (complete, Hungaroton); Reger's clarinet-piano compositions (complete, with Csaba Klenyán, Hungaroton); Schubert's piano works (BMC 084), Ligeti's and Liszt's Etudes (BMC 095) and Kurtág Games BMC 123 and 139.
