Degree Recital: Alessandro Cirafici, oboe
Sunday, May 14, 2017

From Brooklyn, NY, Alessandro Cirafici is in his final year at the Bard College Conservatory of Music where he currently studies with Elaine Douvas, Alexandra Knoll, and Melissa Hooper; in previous years he has studied with Richard Dallessio, Nicholas Stovall, and Mary Lynch. Alessandro is expected to graduate with a B.M. in Oboe Performance and B.A. in German Studies. In pursuance of his second degree in German studies, Alessandro underwent additional studies at the Sprachzentrum an Humboldt Universität. His Senior Thesis for this degree involved the writing of an original Libretto, written in German, entitled Gevatter Tod/ Godfather Death together with its adjoining Foreword, and collaboration with composer Obadiah Wright to produce the opera which premiered in April 2016 at the Center for the Performing Arts in Rhinebeck, NY. As part of his Music Conservatory degree, Alessandro has enjoyed performing in Germany, Russia, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Austria, and Cuba with the Bard College Conservatory Orchestra and the Vivid Shades Wind Quintet, along with appearances with the Refugee Orchestra Project in Brooklyn, NY, at the Beattie Powers Place Concert Series, the West Side Concert Series, the Berkshire Bach Society Concert Series, and as part of a master class series with Peter Kolkay and Milan Turkovich at the Chamber Music Society at Lincoln Center. In the Fall of 2017, Alessandro will continue his studies at the New England Conservatory of Music where he will study oboe with Mr. John Ferrillo. Alessandro wishes to express his gratitude to his oboe teachers and to the German Department—Herr Kempf, Herr Wild, Herr Laki, and Frau Kufner—who have all been supportive and encouraging during his time at Bard.
