Getting There is Only Half the Battle: The Fate of Plants in a Fragmented World
Thursday, November 2, 2017

Many natural ecosystems are being broken up into smaller fragments due to land-use changes, such as agricultural expansion and suburban sprawl. Fragmentation reduces the amount, quality, and connectivity of habitat for plants and other organisms. Drawing on data from tropical and temperate forests, I will discuss the ways in which landscape fragmentation influences plant movement, plant population size, and disease-induced plant mortality. I will also provide examples of restoration approaches for re-connecting habitats in fragmented landscapes.
