Hello, The following event may be of interest to you: The Unwanted: Stories and Photographs from Central American Migration Through Mexico Thursday, September 27, 2018 Each year, approximately 400,000 Central Americans enter Mexico “irregularly,” using unofficial entry points. The vast majority are fleeing the extreme violence in Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador, countries whose murder rates consistently rank among the world’s highest. Most hope to obtain asylum in the U.S., but that’s now becoming virtually impossible.Americans often wonder why people would choose to take such a dangerous journey. A volunteer in a Mexican shelter summarized it this way: “They think, ‘If I stay in my home country, I will die. If I go, I may die.’ They choose between certain and possible death.”Follow the trail of these migrant lives as documented in photographs by Joseph Sorrentino under the auspices of the Puffin Foundation, the Fund for Investigative Journalism and The Investigative Fund at the Nation Institute.
