Amy Hungerford, Bird White Housum Professor of English and Dean of Humanities at Yale, will discuss how and why the humanities have embraced the study of objects and social life with special fervor, a movement that coincides with the rise of virtual culture and with innovations in classroom architecture. How does our desire to see what we study shape—or limit—the subjects, spaces, and methods of teaching? How and where does the invisible work of thought, and the thinker, find a place?
