Hello,

The following event may be of interest to you:

Mercury Transits the Sun
Monday, November 11, 2019

In a rare occurrence, the planet Mercury will pass in front of the Sun on the morning of November 11. However, this is not a celestial event that one can view by looking to the heavens with an unaided eye, sincea) Mercury is very small compared with the Sun, andb) You shouldn't look directly at the Sun.In order to view the transit (clouds permitting) the Physics Program will have a telescope with a solar filter set up on Campus Walk, just up the hill from Kline. Drop by anytime from 9:30am until the transit ends at 1pm to check out this planetary alignment for yourself.Note the next chance to view a Mercury transit from Bard will be on May 7, 2049.

Time: 9:30 am – 1:00 pm
Location: Campus Walk Above Kline
Sponsor: Physics Program
Contact: Paul Cadden-Zimansky.
