ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—The Bard Theater Program will present two performances of Len Jenkin’s acclaimed play, Dark Ride,
at the Black Swan in Tivoli, on Thursday, December 2, and Friday, December 3. Admission to the play is free; however, as seating is limited, tickets must be reserved by calling the box office at 845-758-7900. The Black Swan is located at 66 Broadway in Tivoli, and will open at 5:30 p.m. on show nights; a full pub menu is available. Performances will begin at 7:00 p.m.
Directed by Sam Helfrich, Dark Ride
(the term used in the amusement park industry for a fun-house ride) is a play of seemingly unconnected stories that merge into one in a spectacular finish. The characters include a mysterious figure who gives a scholar an ancient manuscript; a thief who steals an enormous cursed jewel; a dream-like waitress who gives her customers plenty to think about, but no food; and a young nurse who makes the ultimate sacrifice for an egg. By the end members of the audience may be questioning their own version of sanity and the very bounds of reality itself. But then again, isn't that what a good fun-house ride is supposed to do?
The cast includes Bard students Blake Young as the Translator; Shira Sandler as Margo; Adam Gallinat as Jeweller; Christian Kiley as Thief; Matt Waldron as General; Matt Wood as Ed; Mara Bond as Edna; Lucy Kaminsky as Mrs. Lammle; Elliot Dutcher as Mr. Zendavesta; Reyna Bonaparte as Waitress; and Patrick Stewart as Ticket Seller.
