Mike Aziz, a registered architect and LEED accredited professional, is director of urban design at the New York–based firm Cooper Robertson. A leader in New York’s planning community, Aziz has experience in large-scale design, urban redevelopment studies, campus planning, and computational design. He serves on the steering committee for the AIANY Planning and Urban Design Committee, a platform for practitioners and communities to test innovative strategies for livable neighborhoods, and is member of several other advisory groups focused on waterfront planning, water quality, and resilience. At Cooper Robertson, he played a principal role on projects including the Research Triangle Park Master Plan, Hunters Point/Candlestick Point Streetscape and Public Realm Plan, Longwood University Master Plan, and a large private-sector, mixed-use development on the Brooklyn Waterfront. Other projects include the Newtown Creek Vision Plan (Brooklyn/Queens), Flushing Waterways Vision Plan, Kingston Riverport Master Plan, and the Bard College Master Plan and Kline Commons Renovation and Expansion. The author of Reshaping Gentrification: An Urban Design Proposal for the Redevelopment of Columbia Heights (2010), he has served as guest lecturer and critic at Columbia University, University of Pennsylvania, and New York Institute of Technology, among other institutions.
