Biography:
Rose Sloan’s work focuses on prosody prediction and assignment for text-to-speech applications. In particular, she has used linguistic features to predict prosodic events from text across multiple genres. Sloan has served as a research assistant at IBM; the University of Washington; Argonne National Laboratory, where she was engaged in research on cybersecurity of critical infrastructure; and Columbia University, where she did research in clarification dialogue management. Recent publications include “Incorporating Prosodic Events into Text-to- Speech Synthesis,” Speech Prosody; “Prosody Prediction from Syntactic, Lexical, and Word Embedding Features,” Proc. 10th ISCA Speech Synthesis Workshop; and “Node-Based Induction of Tree-Substitution Grammars,” 12th International Workshop on Tree Adjoining Grammars and Related Formalisms. She was also a 4th-place finisher in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.BS, Yale University; PhD candidate, Columbia University. At Bard since 2022.
