bard.edu/bfp

The Bard Fiction Prize was established in 2001 and is awarded annually to an emerging writer who is an American citizen aged 39 years or younger at the time of application. In addition to a monetary award, the recipient is appointed writer in residence at Bard College for one semester. Lindsey Drager received the 2022 prize for her novel The Archive of Alternate Endings. Past winners include Akil Kumarasamy, Clare Beams, Greg Jackson, Carmen Maria Machado, Karan Mahajan, Alexandra Kleeman, Laura van den Berg, Bennett Sims, Brian Conn, Benjamin Hale, Karen Russell, Samantha Hunt, Fiona Maazel, Salvador Plascencia, Peter Orner, Edie Meidav, Paul La Farge, Monique Truong, Emily Barton, and Nathan Englander.
