Position Title: Energy Efficiency Community Coordinator

Location: Newton, Iowa

Dates and compensation: Two year, part time

Description: This two year, part time position will provide direction and oversight for the Alliant Energy Hometown Rewards Program. This program is a temporary, two year partnership between Alliant Energy, Black Hills Energy, and the City of Newton which sets community goals around energy efficiency and sustainability and implements local initiatives to meet those goals.

The position will play a critical role in working with businesses and individuals looking to improve their energy efficiency and sustainability. The City of Newton is looking for a motivated, organized, community-oriented individual to oversee the responsibilities of the Hometown Rewards Program.

Responsibilities:

  • Works with businesses and individuals to improve energy efficiency and sustainability
  • Leads community programs, projects, and events related to energy efficiency and sustainability
  • Coordinates and facilitates the local Hometown Rewards Steering Committee. Works with the Hometown Rewards Steering Committee in goal setting, project planning, and implementation.
  • Communicates with prospective partners and local media
  • Creates and distributes community education and marketing materials
  • Recruits and coordinates volunteers
  • Recruits program partners
  • Timeline management
  • Budget, payment, and invoice coordination
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Knowledge and Professional Certification: Requires completion of a certificate or associate degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in environmental science, marketing, communications, public administration, or equivalent.

Minimum Job-related experience: Requires no previous experience.

Supervisory Responsibility: Requires partial or general supervision of a work group, unit, project team, or volunteers.

Human Relations: Requires frequent contacts with the public, employees, and other departments to solve problems using considerable judgment, coordinate work, influence, and obtain cooperation of other people.

Complexity, Guidance and Judgment: Work requires analysis and judgment in accomplishing diversified duties. Plans and performs work where only general methods are available. Receives limited guidance, i.e., policies and procedures are applicable in general terms. Work is guided by administrative routine, established soundness of judgment and overall adequacy within the limits of policies, standards and precedents.

Working Conditions: Agreeable working conditions. Job has no effect on personal comfort.

Mental and Visual Demands: Requires mental and visual attention which must be maintained for sustained periods; continuous attention to detail, and/or pressure to meet deadlines.

Additional Requirements: For those tasks where a personal or City vehicle is used, individual must be physically capable of operating the vehicle safely, possess a valid Iowa operator’s license and have an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Experience and Training: A four-year degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in environmental science, marketing, communications, public administration, or equivalent is preferred; experience in sustainability planning, event planning, or volunteer facilitation is preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. National Career Readiness Certificate recommended.
