China Now Music Festival: Composing the Future
Olin Hall
7:00 pm – 9:00 pm EDT/GMT-4
7:00 pm – 9:00 pm EDT/GMT-4
A Concert and Chamber Opera with the Bard East/West Ensemble and the China Now Chamber Orchestra
The seventh annual China Now Music Festival, Composing the Future, presents a concert opera by visionary composer Hao Weiya. Hao’s AI’s Variation, Opera of the Future is a science fiction–themed drama for three voices and chamber orchestra, and is the second installment of his chamber opera trilogy. AI’s Variation tells the story of a troubled artist who allows his identity to be ‘enhanced’ by AI but then struggles with the consequences in his personal life. The first half of the program features a performance by the dynamic young musicians of the Bard East/West Ensemble presenting newly commissioned works for Chinese and Western instruments, with a special appearance by the guzheng and guitar combo Duo Chinoiserie.
The China Now Music Festival is an annual series of concerts and related events presented each fall in New York City and at Bard College to highlight the music of contemporary China.
Free and open to the public. No reservations required.
China Now is presented by the US-China Music Institute of the Bard College Conservatory of Music, in collaboration with the Central Conservatory of Music, China. For details, please visit barduschinamusic.org/composing-the-future
(Note: this concert will also be performed at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall on Saturday, October 19, at 7:30 pm.)
