CBS News: “Inside a completely free program at Bard Microcollege”
“I think so many more people than we know feel like they’re left out of traditional college experience,” said Bard Microcollege alumnus Delano Burrowes AA ’21 to CBS News. Showcasing the impact of the microcollege model, CBS spoke with several current students and alumni/ae of Bard at Brooklyn Public Library (BPL), as well as faculty and staff. “The most obvious barrier to access to college is the tuition bill. So right off the bat, we take it off the table,” said Madeleine George, director of admissions for Bard at BPL. After graduating from a microcollege with an associate’s degree, alumni/ae often go on to pursue bachelor’s and postgraduate degrees. Burrowes, who is now pursuing a bachelor’s degree at Columbia University, remembers his graduation from Bard fondly, calling it “one of the happiest days of my life.”
