Part-Time Organic Farmer
Bard College at Simon’s Rock is seeking a part-time Organic Farmer (half-time, February – November) to work on the College’s 2-acre organic farm, located on campus. Reporting to the Director of the Center for Food & Resilience, the farmer will work closely with the Launch Farm Manager on all aspects relating to growing organic crops, for the College and local food bank. Knowledge of organic growing techniques, including planning, soil prep, composting, no-till methods, starting, planting, harvesting and seed-saving are key to this position. The farmer will work with student farm interns, offering mentorship on all farming methods. Chickens may be part of the responsibility of the farmer, with the possible addition of sheep and goats.Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree plus 2-3 years of farming or equivalent experience.
- Ability to lift 50 lb. bags is required.
- The successful candidate will be a high-energy self-starter with strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
