The Bard College Institute for Writing and Thinking is seeking recent Bard graduates to apply for the position of Postbaccalaureate Program Assistant.  The position will support the administration of the Language and Thinking Program and the Institute for Writing and Thinking. This Postbaccalaureate position will also prepare the successful candidate for a future career in teaching and/or academic administration.

The Program Assistant plays a key role in the administrative oversight of IWT programming, with a primary focus on the August Language & Thinking (L&T) Program for students.  The position will also
prepare the successful candidate for a future career in teaching and/or academic administration. The Program Assistant works closely with the Director of IWT and the Language & Thinking Program Director to oversee and plan all logistical preparations of the August program—housing, faculty travel, scheduling, preparing curricular materials etc.—to ensure the smooth running of the program.

During L&T, the Program Assistant offers programming and faculty support with the assistance of two student workers. During the off-season of the L&T program, the Program Assistant is responsible for maintaining L&T program records, archives, and is responsible for the L&T Program website. They also
coordinate and support marketing and publications for both IWT and the L&T Program; and assist the L&T Program Director with network activities, as well as assisting the IWT Associate Manager for Workshops and Events with annual IWT programs in the fall and early spring. The Program Assistant
participates in Language and Thinking Faculty training and writing-based faculty workshops offered by the Institute for Writing and Thinking.

The position requires a two-year commitment, subject to review after the first year, and with the possibility for renewal after two years. This is a part-time, non-exempt position reporting to the Director of the Language & Thinking Program and Director of the Institute for Writing &Thinking.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Primary liaison in the L&T program office with various Bard offices to ensure housing, space, A/V, transportation, and all other logistics are planned as needed.
  • Maintains L&T Program database and listserv.
  • Submits all requisitions for payments pertaining to purchases, L&T faculty stipends, rostrum honorariums, faculty travel and related expenses, & program expenses.
  • Supports the L&T Director in preparing the annual program report.
  • Coordinates with the Bard publications office to schedule and plan creation of annual promotional materials for IWT conferences and workshops as required and is primary liaison with Bard publications office to ensure the timely production of marketing materials.
  • Disseminates email announcements as required for L&T and IWT.
  • Supports IWT Associate Manager for Workshops and Events with arrangement and planning of IWT events and workshops as needed.
  • Maintains student and assistant payroll for L&T program.
  • Maintains & updates L&T’s website & directory listings.  
  • Schedules building maintenance, completes work orders.
  • In conjunction with IWT Business Coordinator maintains office supplies & equipment
  • Active presence for all L&T & IWT Bard programming.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree from Bard College, to be conferred no later than June 2022.
  • Interest in teaching at high school or college level in a writing-related field is also preferred.
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills
  • Ability to multi-task and oversee multiple projects at once.
  • Proficient in MS Office, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, Word Press etc. Administrative experience in an office-setting preferred.
  • Strong interest in writing and the humanities required.
