English as a Second Language Instructor and CoordinatorNow in its tenth year of operation, Al-Quds Bard College for Arts and Sciences (AQB) is an innovative program introducing a liberal arts undergraduate education to the West Bank, with an enrollment of approximately 275 students in 2018-2019. The undergraduate program at AQB is rigorous, culminating in a two-semester independent senior project, which is generally a demanding research paper of 45 pages or more. The MAT program requires an equal amount of advanced study in the elected academic discipline (Mathematics, Biology, English, History, or Sciences), and in key education courses that challenge teachers to apply the results of research and pedagogical analysis to the actual work of teaching.
AQB has a full time opening beginning in the fall 2019 semester, renewable contingent upon successful review and funding, to teach in the Core Division and the Masters of Arts and Teaching Program, as well as to coordinate the growing ESL program, called the Intensive English track. We seek faculty whose teaching methods are student-centered, involving students in active discussion and group tasks to develop their reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills in English. The chosen candidate must be prepared to teach and design Intensive English curricula at the undergraduate and graduate levels and will teach three courses per semester, of which at least two will be sections of Intensive English. In the capacity of Coordinator, the instructor will work closely with discipline faculty to design special academic courses for students on the Intensive English track. S/he will also work closely with the Writing Center Coordinator, helping prepare the tutors to assist students with language concerns. S/he must also be willing to be engaged in curriculum design as well as collaboration with other faculty members in the Core curriculum. The ideal candidate would also be able to teach English Composition to ESL students, which requires teaching students close reading, analytical, and writing skills and the ability to compose scholarly papers. The ESL coordinator monitors closely the progress of all students on the intensive track and leads the process of making recommendations to the dean regarding the academic progress and status of those students. Applicants must also be willing to invest time in faculty development, incorporating low stakes writing into courses and meeting privately with students during office hours to advise their progress. A master’s degree is required and teaching experience is an asset, preferably in a university or ESL environment.

- College-level teaching experience (ESL training preferred but not mandatory)
- Enthusiasm for the mission of the College to provide student-centered teaching, foster critical thinking, and incorporate writing into every class
- Fluent written and spoken English (native preferred)
