Manager - Department of Environmental Services

Bard College is seeking a Manager for the Department of Environmental Services.  This position is responsible for managing all daily operations of residential and academic cleaning campus-wide.  The manager directly supervises all cleaning staff members and regularly inspects buildings and provides guidance and support to employees in their work, while also participating in all aspects of hiring, onboarding and performance.  

Job Duties
  • Manage and directly supervise a workforce of Supervisors, Lead Environmental Specialists, and Environmental Specialists.
  • Liaison between Environmental Services and other departments and program areas.
  • Provide staff training to clean according to department standards.
  • Direct and guide staff members for completion of cleaning assignments and special projects.
  • Maintain daily schedules and direct priorities as needed.
  • Identify and resolve issues, working with the Department Director as needed.
  • Maintain all equipment and manage cleaning supply and equipment inventory and ordering.
  • Inventory and maintain all bedding, working with an outside linen distributer to manage supply as needed.
  • Keep written records of work and account for labor and materials used.
  • Carry out cleaning inspections and written assessments for buildings campus-wide.
  • Participate in the interview and onboarding process.
  • Conduct performance appraisals and engage in employee counseling and the disciplinary process as needed and in accordance with college policies and contractual obligations.
  • Evaluate productivity and make recommendations to improve efficiency.
  • Insure adherence to safety policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Associates Degree and three years constructions/maintenance experience OR High School Diploma or equivalent and five years of management experience. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively and direct the efforts of a diverse workforce.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Commitment to providing a high level of customer service.
  • Ability to effectively manage, motivate and lead a team.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Must be resourceful and solution oriented.
  • Valid Driver’s License. 
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to work weekends and evenings at times if needed
  • Must be able to traverse campus on foot in order to inspect buildings and determine cleaning needs.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend stairs in order to inspect buildings and determine cleaning needs.
