The Bard College Institute for Writing and Thinking (IWT) seeks a Program Manager to coordinate and support professional development workshops for educators at Bard College in Annandale, NY and at schools and colleges in the United States and abroad. The Program Manager will coordinate with IWT Directors to plan IWT’s annual public workshops and events, help determine workshop offerings, and develop marketing materials and pedagogical resources. The Program Manager will also field queries from schools and institutions interested in partnering with IWT and coordinate staffing and logistics for on-site workshops. The ideal candidate will also be able to lead and develop IWT workshops for high school and/or college teachers.
Responsibilities for this position include
For on-site workshops
- Field and track queries from schools and follow up as needed;
- Communicate clearly about IWT’s philosophy and pedagogy, and respond to specific questions, requests, and concerns raised by teachers and administrators interested in working with IWT;
- Collaborate with IWT Faculty Associates by reading workshop scripts and offering feedback; consult pre-workshop and debrief post-workshop, as needed;
- Ensures clear channels of communication and liaises between IWT and workshop leaders about workshop goals and logistics;
- Monitor workshop evaluations and collect formal and informal feedback;
- Maintaining clear records in IWT’s files and database (Salesforce).
- Occasionally lead workshops, as needed.
- Help plan programming components of all public workshops, including workshop offerings, staffing, communication, and scripts.
- Adjudicate workshop proposals and help determine workshop offerings;
- Contribute to IWT marketing and PR, as needed.
- Collaborate with the Associate Manager of Workshops and Events to coordinate programming and logistics;
- Develop and lead workshops, as needed.
The position requires an energetic, responsible, articulate, and engaging person with excellent writing skills who enjoys working alongside secondary and college teachers, and who will enjoy representing IWT and its work to the broader educational community. Strong organizational and administrative skills are essential. The ideal candidate will come with experience in teaching writing or in writing-based teaching—and preferably with experience in secondary education. The ability to collaborate and communicate clearly with others, including IWT Faculty Associates, members of the Bard College community, and IWT staff (both in-house and remote) is very important. Creativity and flexibility are crucial for success in this work, as is a tolerance for juggling more than one thing at a time. The ideal candidate will have an interest in the relationship between writing and learning and in transforming secondary and college classrooms through writing. Masters degree required, terminal degree preferred.
