Biography:Thomas Beard is the founder and director of Light Industry, a Brooklyn-based venue for film and electronic art; and a programer at large for Film at Lincoln Center. Projects at Lincoln Center include “Two Free Women: Lily Tomlin & Jane Wagner”; “Another Country: Outside Visions of America”; “Flat Is Beautiful: The Strange Case of Pixelvision”; and “Talking Pictures: The Cinema of Yvonne Rainer.” Curatorial experience also includes: guest programmer, CineMarfa; programming consultant, Department of Film, Museum of Modern Art, and Internationale Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen; program director, Ocularis in Brooklyn. Publications include Michael Snow’s Cover to Cover (publisher); “A Romance with the Screen: Theater Legend Adrienne Kennedy Looks Back,” interview, The Criterion Collection; “Cut and Action,” about the Cinema Worker Solidarity Fund, Artforum; “Back in the Saddle,” catalogue essay for Bruce Nauman: Disappearing Acts, Museum of Modern Art; Stan Brakhage’s Metaphors on Vision (publisher); reviews in Film Comment, 4Columns, and Artforum; liner notes for Criterion Collection release of Medium Cool; and numerous other catalogue essays, articles, reviews, and conversations. Beard previously taught at The Cooper Union and in the Art Writing MFA Program at the School of Visual Arts.
