Biography:Ranjani Atur is the inaugural recipient of a two-year fellowship that will bring to Bard cutting-edge research that takes the study of ancient Greece and Rome in important new directions. Ranjani’s research interests include Greek and Roman religion, early Christianity, and comparative religions across the ancient Mediterranean, near East, and Asia. Her PhD dissertation at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she also earned an MA in religious studies, addressed “De-Christianizing Greek Religion: Material Expressions of Affect and Belief.” She is the recipient of the 2020–21 American Association of University Women American Dissertation Fellowship and a 2019 Mellon Engaging Humanities Graduate Fellowship, among other honors.
