Biography:

Jordan Weber is a New York- and Midwest-based regenerative land sculptor and activist who works at the crossroads of social justice and environmental racism. Honors include the 2022 United States Artists Award, Yale University’s inaugural Environmental Humanities Artist Residency; inaugural Harvard LOEB/ArtLab Fellow, Creative Capital Award, Joan Mitchell Award, Blade of Grass Fellowship, Tanne Arts Foundation award recipient, Iowa Arts Council Fellow, and African American Leadership Forum Grant. His most recent project was a commission by the Walker Art Center to create a regenerative urban farm in north Minneapolis, which was produced with community members before, during, and after the height of the George Floyd protests. He has also held residencies at the Pulitzer Arts Foundation and Washington University’s Center for the Study of Race, Ethnicity, and Equity (CRE2) in St. Louis. Other recent community projects/programs include the Amanda Gorman “Perennial Philosophies” Harvard Zen Garden; 4MX Greenhouse at the Malcolm X birth site in Omaha, a sculptural artwork that supports holistic community health and land revitalization; and a basketball court project in Martin Luther King Jr. Park in Des Moines, Iowa, among others. His work has been exhibited at venues including Museum of Contemporary Art, Cleveland; Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, Omaha; Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City; No Gallery, Los Angeles; and WhiteBox Gallery, New York; among others. Weber was the subject of a PBS documentary that followed him to the Malcolm X Memorial Foundation in North Omaha, the birthplace of the Black Power leader, to create a living artwork. Press and publications also include Architect Magazine; St. Louis Public Radio, “Close the Workhorse and Land Sovereignty”; Black in the Middle: An Anthology of the Black Midwest; Artforum; Juxtapoz; Hyperallergic; Des Moines Register; and Los Angeles Times, among many others.
