Host-microbe interactions and microbial communities are increasingly disrupted by anthropogenic activity, which threatens biodiversity and ecosystem health. Using fieldwork and experimental biology (physiology, genomics, and experimental evolution), I research how microbial and ecosystem health are connected in sustainable management practices and in a changing climate. In this talk, I present a framework for characterizing land and water management practices, and we explore examples of how direct and indirect management affects ecosystem health. From coral bleaching to food insecurity, managing host-microbe interactions and microbial communities are key to solutions for many 21st century environmental challenges. For more information, call 845-758-6822, or e-mail [email protected].
