Bard College Conservatory of Music Presents
Pianist Xak Bjerken with Miri Yampolsky: Rachmaninoff, Schubert, Schumann, Scriabin, and Steven Stucky
Monday, October 15, 2018
Bitó Conservatory Building
7:30 pm – 8:30 pm EDT/GMT-4
This program presents an offering of dances and poetic moments with two single-movement sonatas at its core. The work by Steven Stucky holds a special place for me as a powerful and wide-ranging late work by my dearly departed friend. From the yodels and open air of Schubert’s Austrian Alps to the tortured sensuality of the Scriabin Sonata, this music whispers, sings, and shouts. Outlining and riding this emotional trajectory allows us to share these composers’ most private moments, and their most ecstatic, too. In the end, we are comforted by the quiet of Schumann’s duet, walking hand in hand into a peaceful place. —Xak Bjerken7:30 pm – 8:30 pm EDT/GMT-4
