Thursday, March 28, 2019
Olin Humanities, Room 102
5:00 pm – 7:00 pm EDT/GMT-4
In the past year, the United States has seen an enormous surge in labor organizing, striking, and union building. From the West Virginia teachers strikes to the government shutdown-induced TSA action to the New York counter-Amazon protests, labor events have made the news more in the last months than in a long time. What can the U.S. labor movement learn from France’s rich history of strong union tradition and labor organizing? Come learn about global fights for workers’ rights from our panelists, Professor Kevin Duong, SEIU Local 200 United organizer Sean Collins, and activist hospitality worker from Unite Here Local 217 Sebastian Glover. There will be a moderated discussion of basic labor history and current labor events and practices, followed by a Q and A. Food will be served.5:00 pm – 7:00 pm EDT/GMT-4
