Instead of "great power competition" Ali Wyne thinks the US should focus on the "great power opportunity".
Join us at 6:30pm EST on Tuesday, February 7 for a discussion about Ali’s recent book, America’s Great-Power Opportunity. He will be in conversation with Malia Du Mont, Chief of Staff and Vice President for Strategy and Policy at Bard College. The rise of China as well as Russia’s efforts to weaken democracies and democratic alliances have resurrected the notion of “great-power competition.” Beware, says Eurasia Group’s Ali Wyne. While that term captures important elements of today’s geopolitics, it is a problematic blueprint for America’s role in the world. Instead, the United States should strive to seize its “great-power opportunity”: pursuing a foreign policy that is rooted less in answering every maneuver of Beijing and Moscow than in articulating its own aspirations. Registration required.
