A showing of Chinese dissident films precedes the artist’s talk.
Wu Yuren is an independent artist who was born Changzhou City, in China’s Jiangsu province, in 1971. He currently lives and works in Beijing and New York City. Wu graduated from the Art Department of Jiangsu Technology Normal Academy in 1994 and was visiting professor of contemporary Chinese art at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, in 2004. Protecting the eviction of artists in Beijing’s Art Zone, he led a demonstration with Ai Weiwei in 2011 that was captured in his documentary Brick Party. Although beaten badly by the police, Wu was falsely accused of attacking a policeman and incarcerated for 10 months. In one of his installations he used the “limited items” he made during that period of confinement. For more information, call 845-758-7158, or e-mail [email protected].
