Gaining Outside Experience in the Classroom: A Snapshot of ELAS
Wednesday, August 17, 2022
Campus Center, Weis Cinema
2:00 pm – 3:00 pm EDT/GMT-4
ELAS stands for Engaged Liberal Arts and Sciences. ELAS courses bring theory to practice by linking coursework, critical thinking, and engagement activities. A form of experiential learning, ELAS courses allow students to test ideas in the real world and develop creative approaches to social, cultural, and scientific issues. Join the ELAS team and faculty to experience a sample of Digital Literacies, an ELAS course that offers a meta-literate approach to understanding how we consume and produce information. This includes developing practical skills for identifying bias, confirming facts, and spotting misinformation around current issues & events. This workshop will follow a sample class lesson plan where we discuss types of digital information from academic sources to news to social media, and then work in groups to fact check examples of misinformation. This will provide a fun, interactive way to expand your digital communication and research skills.2:00 pm – 3:00 pm EDT/GMT-4
