Transgender Day of Remembrance Vigil
Monday, November 21, 2022
6:00 pm – 8:00 pm EST/GMT-5
Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) was started in 1999 by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honor the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed in 1998. The vigil commemorated all the transgender people lost to violence since Rita Hester's death, and began an important tradition that has become the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance. This year's vigil will honor the 32 transgender and nonbinary Americans who have been the victims of fatal violence in 2022.
This event is sponsored by Out@Bard, a working group of the Council for Inclusive Excellence, and the Office of the Dean of Inclusive Excellence.
