Trust is an important topic in human-robot interaction (HRI), in scenarios ranging from human-robot collaborative teams to social companion robots. I will begin by presenting two ways to categorize trust in HRI research, and then step through a study that examined the interplay between trust, emotional intelligence, and gender expectations. Running trust studies led my colleagues and I to questions concerning the nature of measuring trust, specifically through questionnaires. I will therefore then discuss our study in which we examined how applicable participants felt commonly used trust questions were to robots in different scenarios. Finally, I will describe our most recent work on how trust in a robot may or may not transfer between multiple environments and tasks. For more information, call 845-758-6822, or e-mail [email protected].
