Bard at Brooklyn Public Library Graduates Inaugural Class
Eight students earned associate of arts degrees as the first graduating class of Bard at Brooklyn Public Library (BPL). The microcollege graduates were recognized during Bard College’s hybrid virtual Commencement ceremony on August 22. Bard at BPL provides a rigorous liberal arts education to nontraditional students who had previously been deterred, discouraged, or excluded from higher education. The collaboration provides a fully accredited, full scholarship education for students from inside the public library, the only program of its kind in the nation. BPL President and CEO Linda Johnson also received an honorary doctorate of humane letters at Bard Commencement, recognizing her ambitious and daring leadership of the institution.
