Neil Roberts is chair and professor of Africana studies, political theory, and the philosophy of religion at Williams College, where he also directs the college’s W. Ford Schumann ’50 program in democratic studies. Roberts is author of several books including the award-winning book Freedom as Marronage (University of Chicago Press, 2015) and the collaborative work Journeys in Caribbean Thought. His most recent book is A Political Companion to Frederick Douglass (2018) from the University Press of Kentucky. Roberts was President of the Caribbean Philosophical Association from 2016–19 and, since July 2018, he has served as the W. Ford Schumann faculty fellow in democratic studies. As director of the Schumann program, he organized the "Democracy and Freedom Between Past and Future” conference that took place at Williams in 2019.
