Melissa Shook: Freedom to Create explores the photographer’s formative years at Bard College (1959–’61) and beyond through ephemera, ceramics, handmade books, and early series—spanning a life devoted to daily observation and personal identity. Guided by her belief that “freedom is essential to create in any way,” the exhibition follows her journey from student to pioneering artist and educator.
