Dear Bardian,

Today is Senior Project Day, aka SPROJ day. (When did that name become part of the Bard lexicon?)

We are expecting over 400 students to descend on Ludlow with their projects. It's a Bard milestone and one of the best days of the year!

I am still grateful for all the help I got from my advisors Myra Armstead and Dick Wiles, without whom I never would have made it over the finish line.

@bardstudioarts and @bardphoto senior thesis exhibitions have been going up and more to come. Remember, all Bard seniors' art shows, performances and films are open to the public. Check out the full Bard events calendar is here.

If you want to remember what Bard classes are like, check out the recently published fall course list here. As a history major from London I like the sound of James Bond's World and Beyond Witches, Abbesses, and Queens: European Women in 1500-1800 taught by my classmate Tabetha Ewing '89? Or Bad Architecture: On Cringe, Sleeze, and Other Archives of Architecture's Recent Past?

During my sophomore year, I took “Knowing Numbers” (aka “math for poets.”) I remember spending the whole time fantasizing I was going to miraculously discover a prime number no one else had thought of!

A huge congratulations to Alva Rogers MAT '12 who has been selected as one of the 2026 Guggenheim Fellows in Drama and Performance Art.

And congratulations to Bard College faculty members Jacqueline Goss, professor of film and electronic arts, and Joseph Luzzi, Asher B. Edelman Professor of Literature, who have also been awarded 2026 Guggenheim Fellowships.

So it's only 24 days until Reunion and Commencement Weekend: May 22-24. 1s and 6s–it’s your official year, but everyone is invited. Be sure to register by May 11. Rooms on campus are still available.

Every year, there are classes that are so excited to come back they choose to make a special event around their reunion. Events this year include alums from the Class of 2016 who are putting on their own photo show, the Manor House Dance Party back at the special request of 1990s reunion classes, and the Class of 1976 are organizing a special memorial fire ceremony.

Hope to be seeing you,
Jane Brien ‘89

P.S.

Shout out to Adam Khalil '11 and Zack Khalil '14 for coming this past Monday to show their amazing new film, Aanikoobijigan [ancestor/great-grandparent/great-grandchild], co-sponsored by the Bard Center for Indigenous Studies and the Center for Moving Image Arts. There were lots of alumni/ae involved, including Tiffany Sia '10, Leila Bordreuil '13, Bayley Sweitzer '12, and Samuli Haavisto '09.

Bard Alumna Lindsey Aldrich Jordan ’24 and Bard Students Tessa Ni ’28, Anna Gaylord ’27, and Myla Allen ’27 Write About Attending Hannah Arendt Event in Vienna

Bard alumna Lindsey Aldrich Jordan ’24 and Bard students Tessa Ni ’28, Anna Gaylord ’27, and Myla Allen ’27 each wrote about their experiences attending a three day Hannah Arendt reading event in Vienna. The event focused on the “Irreversibility and the Power to Forgive” chapter of Hannah Arendt’s The Human Condition and its counterpart in Arendt’s German translation. “We were not gathered merely to analyze forgiveness as a concept. We were speaking, responding, risking our thoughts in front of others. In Arendt’s sense, we were acting,” writes Ni.

Statement From Bard College Board of Governors

We are the Bard College Alumni/ae Association Board of Governors, a group of 46 alumni/ae across Bard class years, schools, and programs, who volunteer our time in support of the Bard College Alumni/ae Association. The mission of the Alumni/ae Association is to “strengthen the Bard Community by informing alumni/ae about the ongoing life of the College and its alumni/ae, and encouraging life-long connection, support, and loyalty to the College.”

We have heard from many of you since the release of the Epstein files, and we acknowledge the broad range of emotions our fellow alumni/ae may be feeling at this moment. We have many of the same concerns and questions you may have, as well as the same diversity of opinions, which reflect the principles of rigorous and thoughtful inquiry we learned and continue to practice from our time at Bard.

As members of the Alumni/ae Association Board of Governors, we care about Bard alumni/ae, students, faculty, and staff, who may be experiencing the impact of these events. By staying connected we can strengthen our community of Bardians and the College. Should you choose to engage with others about this topic, we encourage you to do so with respect and kindness.

Like you, we have received the emails from President Botstein and the Board of Trustees and understand that a review is underway.  If you wish to communicate with the College’s oversight body, the Bard College Board of Trustees, their email is [email protected].

Thank you for continuing to care about and support Bard. We hope to see you at the commencement and reunion events in May.

Sincerely, The Bard College Alumni/ae Association Board of Governors

Our March Supporters

We’re grateful to the many alumni/ae who made a gift to Bard in March—their generosity is already making an impact. Join them by making a gift and help fuel Bard’s bold mission.
