Dear Bardian,
Happy Summer! It's a big weekend here in the HV. Bard SummerScape begins June 25 with the opera Suddenly Last Summer and the Spiegeltent opens June 26, with Underground System and the first dance party of the season.
Saturday, June 27th at 1pm is the opening of Cagecircle: Composition for an Exhibition for an Exhibition at the Stevenson Library. I'm thrilled that some items from the Office of Alumni/ae Affairs collection were selected through 'I Ching chance procedures.' I remember my first month at Bard, John Cage was here, I think, as part of a minimalist conference called Maximal Implications of the Minimal Line. Didn't Chuck Stein say the word 'tree' for 16 hours in Kline? Or am I getting confused?
CCS opens three new shows at the Hessel Museum of Art this Saturday: Betty Parson: An Expanded World, Replica of a Chip: The Weaving Technology of Marilou Schultz, Uman: In Between. Reception 2-5pm.
And just a little further up the Hudson is Art Omi in Ghent. Their Summer Opening features two Bardian artists and faculty members Nayland Blake ’82 with “Haunt”: Being the Folly of One Victorya Spectre (2026) and Tschabala Self ’12 with Tschabalala Self: Pioneer (2023).
And if you want to see what MFA 2026 is doing, everyone is invited to the thesis performance on Friday, July 10 and the exhibition will take place on Saturday, July 11. Both at the Massena Campus. Follow @bardmfa for details.
The 13th annual Get Engaged: Student Action and Youth Leadership Conference has just wrapped up in Bangladesh, bringing together students, faculty, and staff from the Global Higher Education Alliance for the 21st Century (GHEA21), of which Bard is a founding partner. The conference featured leadership workshops and trainings, along with civic engagement project presentations by current Bardians and students from over 16 countries, including Austria, Ghana, Myanmar and Palestine. One of the highlights was learning from students living and working in Cox’s Bazar, home to the world’s largest refugee camp. Follow @GHEA21 to see more on the conference.
Arts and activism, making and doing, reading and writing–Bard does it all. As we boldly go into the next fiscal year, I am asking you, as I always do at this time, to join me in supporting the programs that change lives in Annandale and around the world.
Be seeing you,
Jane '89 |

The Postcard Challenge is on. I'm offering vintage postcards from my collection (see above of an example) and a little piece of Bard swag to anyone who sends me a postcard this summer. Thank you! I want to hear from you. (Jane, Alumni/ae Center, 30 Campus Road, Annandale-on-Hudson, NY, 12504).

Nayland Blake ’82 Profiled in Hyperallergic
Nayland Blake ’82, professor of studio arts at Bard College, was profiled in Hyperallergic. In an interview with Lisa Yin Zhang, Blake spoke about how their art and work affects their understanding of their own identity, what Pride Month means to them, and the movements that informed the work of their peers in queer art. Blake’s first large-scale outdoor installation, “Haunt”: Being the Folly of One Victorya Spectre, will be on view at Art Omi in Columbia County, NY, on June 27.
