The program's curriculum places at its center the theory-practice nexus, equipping students with a sophisticated set of theoretical and conceptual tools and practical experiences that in combination will prepare them to understand the contemporary global landscape, where problems and solutions increasingly transcend territorially defined national communities.
About the Program
Central European University in Vienna, Austria

About the Program

Students begin in either Vienna, studying in the renowned International Relations program at Central European University (CEU), or at Bard College's Annandale-on-Hudson campus. They then move to the Bard Globalization and International Affairs (BGIA) campus in New York City, where they complete coursework and an internship with an organization working on global affairs. By emphasizing critical thinking, writing, and experiential learning, the program will educate the next generation of global citizens to be actively engaged in the transnational public sphere.

2023-24 Admissions Updates

Students interested in applying to the Bard MA in Global Studies (MAGS) program can now choose between two tracks and degree options! Both programs’ curriculum places at its center the theory-practice nexus, equipping students with a sophisticated set of theoretical and conceptual tools and practical experiences.

In the CEU-BGIA track, students begin in Vienna, studying in the International Relations program at Central European University, before moving to the BGIA campus in New York City, where they complete coursework and an internship in global affairs. Students interested in this track must submit applications to both CEU’s one year program in International Relations and the Bard MA in Global Studies. After completing a capstone research project, students will graduate with a degree from both CEU and Bard.

The new Bard-BGIA track is a fully-US based program where students begin at Bard’s Annandale-on-Hudson campus in New York. They will then join the rest of the cohort in New York City to complete required coursework and an internship in global affairs, culminating in a capstone project and a degree from Bard College.

Applications for both tracks close on February 1. Prospective students can apply to both or either track, although there will be limited admissions and financial aid capacity for the Bard-BGIA track.
