August 2025 Triangle
Dear Alumni/ae,

Welcome to your newly designed Alumni/ae Triangle Newsletter—thank you to all the members of the Board of Governors Communications Committee who helped us get here. It’s a work in progress, but let me know what you think.

It’s been a beautiful September in Annandale. The campus is bustling with students, and many are even enjoying life in the brand-new dorms on North Campus.

We have a class of 403 first-years, 114 transfer students (including the Simon’s Rockers), and 39 students in the BardBAC

I'm off today to Santa Fe for the Southwest Arts Weekend and Alumni/ae Cities Party—looking forward to seeing folks there. I hope to see lots of you back in Annandale for Alumni/ae Weekend, October 24th-26th. Classes, tours, students, fall harvest lunch, Hudson Valley Cities Party and Leon on "Freedom and Democracy in Today's America.Registration is now open! Check out the schedule and make your plans today.

Be seeing you,

BoG Stories

John Stevens

Every month a different member of the Board of Governors is asked to contribute to our Triangle newsletter. This month John Stevens '94 shares his Bard story.

Earlier this year, I was honored and delighted to have been nominated to serve on Bard's Alumni/ae Association Board of Governors.

I had always felt a deep connection to the College, as my personal and educational experiences there have had a profound impact on my life and career, especially my relationship with my beloved art history professor, the late Jean French. I am happy to now be able to give back to the College, and this year I began a multi-year pledge to endow the Jean M. French Travel Award in Art History, which offers opportunities to students for group and individual travel, abroad and in the US. Having studied abroad as an Art History major at Bard, the purpose of this award is especially meaningful to me.

Prior to joining the board, I was part of my class reunion committees for both my 25th and 30th reunions. Both reunions were a total blast and reintroduced me to old and new friends. (Anyone remember the dance party at Manor with the school bus? That was our class!) Serving on the board is a great pleasure. I get to know alumni/ae from many different eras and parts of the country, and hear first hand news of the College from President Botstein. He's been at Bard for 50 years!

I live full time in Idaho now, but I previously called Seattle my home, so when the call went out to host a Cities Party, I was happy to organize one. If you are in the area, please join me and my co-hosts at the Rainier Club on Wednesday, October 8th for the Seattle Cities Party.

Hope to see you at Family and Alumni/ae Weekend in Annandale, October 24-26.

Bard is doing bold and critical work—that makes me proud.

Special thanks to photographer Chad Kleitsch '91 for the Blithewood Blooms project. At Family and Alumni/ae Weekend in 2024, Chad told me he had an idea of how to help the College and support the renovation of Blithewood Garden. So, until the end of the year, Chad is giving one archival print of a “Blithewood Bloom” for every donation to the Blithewood Garden Renovation Project of $100 or more.
