December 2025 Newsletter
Dear Bardian,

I hope my last letter of 2025 finds you well. Snow has gone after crazy rain and 60 degree weather last week—now it's frigid again and I am hoping for a dusting tomorrow.

Some personal and Bard highlights of 2025

  • Visiting Arnold Davis from the Class of 1944 who turned 102 in November!
  • We started sending the weekly Alumni/ae News and Events Digest—#bardianandproud
  • I have kittens!
  • There's a Maya Lin-designed building being constructed on campus, a spiral sod roof!
  • My son is going to be studying Computer Science at Bard in Vietnam for a semester and I am hoping to visit him!
  • The Massena campus opened—Simon's Rock, Center for Human Rights and the Arts, Judy Pfaff's installation class in the old chapel!!
  • All the alumni/ae who contacted us and offered their support for our student Faqirzada ‘28 who is still being detained by ICE.
  • There's a Maya Lin-designed building being constructed on campus, a spiral sod roof!

Shout Out

Thank you to Caia Diepenbrock '15 for organizing the NYC Cities Party last week in Brooklyn. We had a great time at Spritzenhaus 33 and raised money for the Bard Sanctuary Fund. Caia did a fun takeover on Instagram, check it out under 'Cities Party' highlights on @bardalumni.

BoG Stories

Every month a different member of the Board of Governors is asked to contribute to our Triangle newsletter. This month Anna Kaczynska ’06 shares her Bard story.

I first came across Bard College while reading about it in a newspaper, and in what felt like a flip of a coin, I made a decision. That single moment ended up changing my world—quite literally. I decided to apply, and when I was accepted, I thought, I’ll just stay in the States—how hard can it be? (Don’t ask..) Reflecting on that decision—after all those years, I can’t imagine picking any other place.

After graduating in 2006, I didn’t stay closely connected to Bard. A few years ago, however, I began returning to campus. It’s easy to get lost in the crowds of New York City, with a mind constantly preoccupied by work, events, and the noise of everyday life. Each time I returned to Bard, though, I found myself slowing down—reconnecting and rediscovering a sense of peace.

I’ve remained in touch with many classmates, yet somehow it felt easier to travel to other continents than to make the trip upstate. In 2021, I served on the reunion committee, and this year I joined the Bard Board of Governors—an incredible honor. I chose to do so because, after many years of drifting, I’ve come to see Bard as a truly unique niche: a quiet, remarkable place that brings together people from all over the world, each with their own distinctive talents and interests.
