EIP is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to the enforcement of anti-pollution laws. We work with communities seeking the protection of these laws, and we work to block political interference with these laws. EIP has three objectives: (1) to provide objective analyses of how the failure to enforce or implement environmental laws increases pollution and affects the public’s health; (2) to hold federal and state agencies, as well as individual companies and regulated facilities, accountable for failing to enforce or comply with environmental laws; and (3) to help local communities obtain the protection of environmental laws. Description

The Environmental Integrity Project seeks an experienced senior-level attorney for a full-time position in our Austin, Texas office. The senior attorney will help develop and implement anti-pollution strategies, including legal, policy, and communications strategies. The senior attorney will be responsible for a small docket of active cases, comprised of federal citizen suits, state court actions, permit challenges, and/or rule appeals, and will be required to independently handle all aspects of his or her cases. In addition to handling legal matters, the senior attorney will also research and write policy reports, and will communicate with elected officials, the media, and members of the public. The senior attorney must be capable of working as part of a campaign and coordinating with organizers, activists, and client organizations. The senior attorney will also help with aspects of fundraising, including aiding in budget development, grant-writing, and reporting.

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, a candidate must:

  • Be licensed to practice law in Texas;
  • Have a minimum of five years of environmental law practice;
  • Have significant trial experience in federal, state, and/or administrative proceedings;
  • Have strong research and writing skills, and know how to write for different audiences;
  • Be tenacious and detail-oriented.
