Mission Statement

The Fiorello H. LaGuardia Foundation (LGF) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization based in New York City whose mission is to continue the legacy of Mayor LaGuardia as an international humanitarian. Mayor Fiorello H. LaGuardia, while Director General of the UN Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (UNRRA), enunciated his “One World” philosophy (1946). He believed that recipients of food and reconstruction assistance should be selected on the basis of need and not by political ideology. Long an advocate of international cooperation and the provision of economic assistance to emerging nations, UNRRA provided the ideal mechanism to put his beliefs into practice.

Issue Areas – Action Issues

LGF strives to perpetuate LaGuardia’s vision for one world through programs that foster:

  • Community-based development and South-to-South technology transfer
  • Sustainable agriculture and improved access to water
  • Renewable energy infrastructure
  • Health, education and academic exchange
