Position Title: Program Coordinator and Communications Specialist

Location: Washington, DC

Hours and Compensation: Full-time; Compensation commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Description: National Council for Science and the Environment (NCSE) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the scientific basis of environmental decision-making. It seeks to be a bridge that spans the divide between science, its applications, and policy.

NCSE specializes in programs that foster collaboration between the diverse institutions and individuals creating and using environmental knowledge to make science useful to policies and decisions on critical environmental issues.

We engage scientists, educators, policy-makers, environmental managers, government agencies, conservationists, and business leaders. While an advocate for science and its use, NCSE does not take positions on environmental issues. With a reputation for objectivity and non-partisanship, we are able to provide a neutral forum for all. NCSE assists communities in jointly finding acceptable solutions to complex environmental challenges by using expert facilitation, problem solving processes, and fostering joint implementation.

All sciences and technical areas relevant to decisions are recognized as important, including physical, biological, and social sciences, as well as engineering.  Research, scientific synthesis and assessment, tools that support decision-making, formal and informal education, communication, are all respected and utilized.

Responsibilities: The key responsibilities of this position will support NCSE’s various services related to the University Affiliate Program, Council of Environmental Deans and Directors (CEDD), Council of Energy Research and Education Leaders (CEREL), and the Community College Affiliate Program (CCAP).

Specific Tasks: This position will primarily report to the Associate Executive Director of NCSE.  Support with planning, coordination, and implementation of all activities is required.

Specific list of responsibilities may include coordination of monthly conference calls; ensuring that NCSE’s affiliate members receive the best value for the services offered; CEDD, CEREL, and CCAP conference and event planning; collaboration with federal agencies, academic community, and others;  outreach and communications with partners/collaborators; logistics, promotion and marketing of events;  participation in NCSE events; support with all CEDD, CEREL, and CCAP pre- and post-conference related activities;  Co-create and support all responsibilities related to the publication of “Daily Environmental News Digest” and weekly Newsletters; CEDD, CEREL, and CCAP web-page content management; promotion and marketing of CEDD, CEREL, and CCAP events, activities, and services; Support and help with all other NCSE activities and tasks to include memberships and development.

Qualifications:

Education (Required): Bachelor’s Degree. (Master’s Degree preferred).

Candidates with an earned degree in environmental sciences, sustainability, or related fields will be preferred.

Candidates with excellent communication (written and verbal) skills will be preferred.

Experience: Prefer candidates with 1 year of professional experience related to program coordination (internship experience will be considered)
