Description: The Environmental Law & Policy Center (ELPC) seeks to hire an entry-level Field Organizer for a one-year fellowship term. The Field Organizer’s primary job responsibilities involve outreach to community groups for ELPC’s children’s health protection and diesel pollution reduction campaign, and focused work on other “hot” ELPC campaigns where additional help is needed. S/he will seek and engage new partners, help to coordinate relationships with coalition members, engage in community outreach activities, and draft informational and persuasion pieces. This is a great opportunity to learn and get exposure to the major environmental issues facing the Midwest at one of the region’s largest environmental groups.

Responsibilities: Be a member of ELPC’s Children’s Health Protection and Diesel Pollution Reduction Campaign team (2/3 of Field Organizer’s time), and assist on other ELPC project teams as hot issues arise. Seek out, meet with and energize grassroots partners, attend and participate in public meetings, and otherwise assist ELPC’s project staff advance our goals. Draft short educational and persuasion pieces, conduct research for special projects.

Qualifications: This Field Organizer must be a good people person (comfortable meeting people and finding common ground), persuasive, flexible, able to learn quickly and work effectively in a fast-paced professional environmental with public interest attorneys, MBAs, public policy advocates and communications specialists. S/he should have good writing skills, be hard-working, able to multi-task and prioritize work under deadlines. Some knowledge of environment, clean energy, climate change solutions and/or other public policy issues is valued. In short, ELPC is looking to hire a smart Organizer who can effectively represent the organization and advance its mission. A Bachelors’ degree, previous work and/or internship experience is required.
