Research Assistant Intern, Earth Day New York

Organization:  Earth Day New York

Position Title: Research Assistant Intern

Location: New York City, New York

Dates and compensation: $500 stipend upon completion of internship

Application Deadline: June 15, 2015

Description: About Earth Day New York: We aim to make Earth Day more than a one-day event or annual environmental wake-up call. We hope to be a catalyst for ongoing education, action, and change as we simultaneously broaden the base of support and rekindle old commitments through highly participatory strategies. Earth Day New York is a 501(c)(3) organization that promotes environmental awareness and solutions through partnerships with schools, community organizations, businesses, and governments. We do so through year-round programs as well as our annual Earth Day events.

Past interns have gone on to work on the City of New York’s recycling initiatives, landmark urban farming projects, and corporate responsibility at multinational corporations.

Responsibilities: We’re developing several projects as part of our 25th anniversary activities that center around large-scale advocacy campaigns and a sustainable living mini-magazine. The Research Assistant Intern will be responsible for laying the groundwork for these programs and spearheading their development over the course of the summer. It is a good opportunity to gain experience with substantive research, manage a project from start to finish, and learn about the breadth of the sustainability field.

Qualifications:

  • Internet-based research skills.
  • Excellent writing abilities.
  • Experience researching and drafting academic research papers or reports.

Desired abilities:

  • Knowledge of and interest in sustainability.
  • Experience with graphic design and publishing tools.
  • Experience writing for a variety of audiences, including academics, laypeople, businesspeople, and public officials.
