Description: We’re looking for a knowledgeable and connected climate/clean energy/environment communications professional with a head for strategy and passion for social change to lead Fenton’s Climate team. The ideal VP candidate has at least 7+ years of experience in communications, advocacy and campaign work. Communications agency experience a plus.

Fenton creates top-tier cause and issue campaigns for past and present clients like MoveOn.org, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Save the Children, The Sierra Club, Sungevity, Al Gore, the IPCC, DC Entertainment, Save the Redwoods, the Environmental Defense Fund, 350.org, NRG, Bloomberg Philanthropies and Johnson & Johnson. Fenton has 60+ staff in four offices in New York, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and San Francisco.

Responsibilities:

  • Leading and developing a team of dedicated communication professionals including day-to-day supervision for assigned client accounts,
  • Management of multi-faceted communications programs with varying scopes of work and budgets, including oversight of work product quality and evaluating success
  • Writing and presenting comms strategies and plans in response to RFP inquiries
  • Generation of new business opportunties for the climate group and Fenton overall
  • Pitching prospective clients, funders and other potential partners or allies
  • Developing new accounts and campaigns with clients and funders
  • Collaborating with cross-office and cross-disciplinary teams
  • Monitoring client budgets for profitability, anticipating potential problems
  • Assisting in building firm-wide capacity of Fenton professional services
  • Maintaining in-depth knowledge of the clients’ business and culture, products and services, competition and latest industry trends
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with key influencers in the climate, clean energy and environment world
  • Participation in talent management and retention leadership groups within the agency
  • Training and mentoring staff in developing the digital skills necessary to serve our clients
  • Writing great project plans and delegating appropriate tasks a clear and collaborative manner

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of agency experience
  • Proven record of developing and executing communications campaigns designed to influence the general public and decision/policy makers.
  • Successful track record managing projects, teams, tasks and deliverables to successful completion
  • Exceptional problem-solving and strategic decision-making skills
  • Proven history of high client satisfaction
  • Proven financial management and analytical skills
  • Strong team leadership and references who can talk to your mentorship and management skills
  • Demonstrated expertise using influence, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Juggling multiple tasks under tight deadlines
